Imbolc

Well, it was a beautiful and sunny but very cold day in our usual meeting spot in the park. Even with the fire going we were definitely feeling the pangs of winter!

Our Imbolc ritual centered around hope -- the return of the light, looking forward to the beginnings of spring. We gathered around a nice fire and thanked the goddess Brighid for looking over us over the past years, and asked her to bless us and watch over our friends and family during the coming year. Part of the ritual… Continue

Samhain

We gathered once again around our little fire pit in Ridley Creek Park for a Samhain ritual that focused on transitions and the coming of the winter. It's been a tough year for some of our grove members, and we all sent our hopes and good wishes into the fire as we made offerings of this year's harvest corn (which did pop nicely!).

After ritual and a few Hail Muins, Michael favored us with some tunes on his guitar, seasonal ("Werewolves of London") and perhaps not (some mash-ups that… Continue

Halloween Concert Saturday Noon in Chestnut Hill

Hi, everyone! I'm doing my annual Halloween Concert this Saturday at the Hill
Tea Bar in Chestnut Hill (link attached). Show starts Noon-ish and runs until
2:30-ish. It's a family-friendly event with a lot of traditional Celtic and
British ballads, plus some modern novelty tunes (sans cowbell). Hope you can
stop by. Cheers -- Michael.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day for a fall equinox ritual! This past weekend was sunny and not too hot or too cold, just like good porridge. :-) We gathered around the fire pit near Area 14 and had some fun just sitting and gabbing before ritual got started. Just as we were about to get started, we got a nice surprise -- a visit from Michael, who had been so swamped with work he hadn't been able to come in a while.

We did a slimmed-down version of ritual, centering around the… Continue

It was a great ritual for new friend and old! We had two new people join us this time, and a return visit from Ira, who came down along with the folks of Hawk and Willow Grove in Allentown. It was also great to see Liz again, whose been busy since she started college last fall.

It had rained for most of the day (most of the week!) but that kind of thing doesn't deter us. We were really happy to discover that the picnic site we'd discovered during the last ritual was not overgrown,… Continue

A Little Bit about Us

Coille dhe Darach Dhubh (Black Oak Grove) is not affiliated with any Druid order. We’re an eclectic group with a fluid ritual style that’s based loosely on the rituals of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids. We have members from many different backgrounds, and all are welcome!

Our rituals are held outdoors at Ridley Creek State Park in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. In fact, our name was taken from a state champion black oak tree that’s on the park grounds, and which we honor with offerings as part of our ritual cycle. We’ve been meeting at Ridley Creek since 2005, and while our membership has changed in that time, we have a core group of people who share the responsibility for organizing and leading rituals.

We hold open gatherings eight times a year, regardless of weather – rain, shine, hail, hurricanes, we’ve faced them all. After ritual, we usually have a picnic in nice weather, or dinner at a local eatery if not.

Rituals are open to anybody who would like to come; there are no special membership or attendance requirements. We are here to create a welcoming place for people to honor the seasons in peace and harmony.

To find out more about us, feel free to browse around this site, or e-mail us at darachdubh@gmail.com.
